Gaudi's house
The house-museum, conceived by l' architect Francesc I Mestres Berenguer, built by l' contractor Josep Casanovas I Pardo and signed by Gaudí itself, was built between 1903 and 1905.
It was on sale, but no purchaser emerged. In 1906, Gaudi bought the house where it went to live with his father and his niece. Gaudi father died this same year and his niece in 1912.
Since then Gaudí lived only at the house until the end of 1925, when it was transferred to l' workshop of the Temple of Sagrada Família, a few months before its death in 1926.
Gaudi made donation of the house to the Council of the Temple of Sagrada Familia (Junta del Temple of Sagrada Familia) and shortly after was sold to Chiappo Arietti family. In 1963 Friends association of Gaudi purchase the house to the descendents of Chiappo Arietti to make a museum of it. Three years later, was inaugurated the Gaudi House-Museum.
Josep Maria Garrut in has was the director since his opening to the public and jusqu' with its death in 2008. In 1992, the house was given to the Foundation of the Council of the Expiatory Temple of Sagrada Familia.
